The health plan that isn’t really insurance

During open enrollment, ads, texts and calls promise comprehensive health coverage. Some look like they come from the government or a well-known insurer, but they’re impersonators, or they’re selling limited-benefit plans or medical discount cards that aren’t insurance at all.

What they want

Your premium payments and personal information for coverage that doesn’t deliver what was promised.

YOUR NEXT MOVE

Check through another route.

Start at HealthCare.gov or call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596, not a number from an ad or search result. A prerecorded robocall selling health insurance is illegal, so hang up. Check what a plan actually covers before you pay.
